Angelie's birth
I would love to share my beautiful birth experience with you all. I took hypnobirthing classes with Vicki Hobbs earlier last year. It was through Vicki that I connected with Vanessa at Simply Midwifery. I am so grateful for Vicki’s recommendation as I could not have asked for a better midwife. After meeting Vanessa for the first time at a home visit, I knew she was the perfect person to support me and my baby throughout my pregnancy and birth. With my first born Flynn I went through the public system, had my routines check-ups at the antenatal clinic and had a planned hospital birth. I am grateful as all thing went well, although my pregnancy care lacked the one on one connection that I received from Vanessa’s lovely home visits with my second pregnancy.
Being more educated and confident this second time around, I was able to share with Vanessa my preferences throughout my pregnancy and the hopes I had for my ‘dream’ birth. All of my preferences were greatly respected and I was made to feel totally in control of empowered around my decisions. I received wonderful advice along the way and looked forward to my home antenatal visits, where we would just relax, chat and have a cup of tea or coffee while we went over things. It was so nice to be able to build a relationship with the person who would be supporting me and my baby throughout the entire process.
After taking hypnobirthing classes and listening to both Vicki and Vanessa’s wonderful advice I went on to have the most beautiful home water birth, just as I had hoped for! My partner and I spent the day relaxing, talking short walks around the park and bouncing on the fitball while listening to Bob Marley. It wasn’t until Vanessa arrived, followed by my doula and mum that my labour progressed quickly and I soon felt ‘ready’ to birth my baby.
My beautiful daughter Angelie Louisa was born September 17th 2015 at 3.45pm. I really feel like I had the perfect birth. I had so much love, support and positivity throughout this second pregnancy and it gave me so much strength throughout my birth. It was so amazing and still, five months later, I get butterflies when I think back to how beautiful it really was.
Vanessa and her support midwife Peta were both incredible during and after my birth. They took such good care of Angelie and I, no stone was left unturned! They went above and beyond what I had expected and thought of all those little things, like making my bed up fresh for me to lay in with my baby and just generally making sure baby and I were well and truly taken care of.
It was sad to have my 6 week postnatal visits come to an end as I’d made such a lovely relationship with Vanessa and shared an incredible journey with her. Still 5 months on, I get butterflies when I think of my beautiful birth J
Thankyou Vanessa for being such a big part of my dream birth which I will cherish forever. Angelie is such a calm, happy little baby and I am one very happy mum!
